Just Summit Trails is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. This Privacy Notice explains how we collect and use your personal data, the circumstances in which we may share it, how we protect it and the rights and choices you have in relation to it.
Just Summit Trails ("Just Summit", "we", "us", or "our") organises hiking, outdoor, wellness, recreational, travel and related experiences. For purposes of applicable data protection law, Just Summit is the data controller where we determine the purpose and means for which your personal data is processed.
The personal data we collect depends on how you interact with us. We may collect contact and identification information, registration and participation information, health and emergency information, payment information, photographs and videos, feedback and survey information, and communications.
We generally collect personal data directly from you when you make an enquiry, register for an experience, make a payment, complete a form, participate in a Just Summit experience, or communicate with us. We may also receive personal data from a parent or guardian or another person registering on your behalf.
We may use your personal data to register and administer your participation, communicate operational updates, manage participant safety, process payments, manage our relationship with you, obtain feedback, create and publish appropriate content, investigate complaints, and comply with our legal obligations.
We process your personal data with your consent, to provide an experience you have requested, to comply with a legal obligation, to protect your vital interests, or for our legitimate interests where those are not overridden by your rights.
Outdoor activities involve inherent risks and certain health information may be important for your safety. We collect only information reasonably necessary for your safety and participation, and take additional care when handling it. Access is restricted to persons who require it for safety or emergency purposes.
Photography and storytelling form part of many Just Summit experiences. We will provide reasonable notice where photography is intended and provide a means for you to communicate your preferences. We will not knowingly use images of a participant receiving medical treatment or experiencing significant distress as ordinary promotional content.
The best interests of the child will be a primary consideration in any decision concerning the collection, use, sharing or publication of a child's personal data. Registration of a child must ordinarily be undertaken by or with the involvement of a parent or lawful guardian.
When you join a WhatsApp group, your telephone number, profile name and profile photograph may be visible to other members. Contact information obtained through a Just Summit group should not be used for unrelated purposes without the person's permission.
We do not sell your personal data. Where reasonably necessary to organise or deliver our experiences, we may share relevant personal data with guides, safety personnel, medical and emergency personnel, transport providers, park and forest authorities, accommodation providers, payment service providers, and technology providers.
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal data against accidental or unlawful loss, destruction, alteration, unauthorised disclosure, access or misuse.
We keep personal data only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purpose for which it was collected or where continued retention is required for legal, accounting, insurance, safety or other legitimate purposes.
Subject to applicable law, you have the right to be informed about how your personal data is being used, request access to data we hold about you, object to processing, request correction of inaccurate data, request deletion where applicable, and withdraw consent where our processing is based on your consent.
We may communicate with you about upcoming experiences where we have an appropriate legal basis. You may ask us to stop sending direct marketing at any time.

Just Summit Trails ('Just Summit', 'we', 'us' or 'our') organises hiking, outdoor, wellness, recreational, travel and related experiences.
These Terms of Participation apply when you register to participate in a Just Summit experience. They explain the conditions on which you participate, your responsibilities as a participant, the responsibilities of Just Summit and important information concerning the risks associated with outdoor activities.
Please read these Terms carefully before registering for or participating in a Just Summit experience. By registering for or participating in a Just Summit experience, you agree to these Terms.
Outdoor experiences involve adventure, physical activity and exposure to natural environments. They may also involve risk that cannot be completely eliminated. These Terms are intended to ensure that you understand the basis on which Just Summit experiences are organised and the responsibilities that we and our participants have towards each other. They should be read together with any information provided for the particular experience and, where applicable, the Just Summit Trails Safety Policy, Environmental and Trail Conservation Policy, Cancellation, Refund and Transfer Policy, Privacy Notice, and Equality and Non-Discrimination Policy.
Participation requirements may differ between Just Summit experiences. An experience may have requirements relating to age, physical demands, hiking experience, equipment or other considerations. You are responsible for making a reasonable assessment of whether you are able to participate. We may decline or restrict participation where we reasonably consider this necessary for safety, legal or operational reasons.
Before the experience, we will seek to provide information reasonably necessary for participants to prepare appropriately. This may include information concerning the route or destination, distance, elevation, expected duration, difficulty, terrain, meeting and departure arrangements, clothing and equipment, food and drinking water, and weather or environmental conditions. Descriptions of distance, duration and difficulty are reasonable estimates — actual conditions may differ.
By participating in a Just Summit experience, you agree to: provide information reasonably requested for your registration, participation or safety; take reasonable steps to prepare; bring clothing, footwear, water, food, medication and equipment communicated as necessary; follow lawful and reasonable instructions given by guides, rangers or relevant authorities; remain within the designated group or route; promptly inform the team if you become unwell, injured, distressed or require assistance; avoid conduct that unnecessarily places you or another person at risk; respect other participants, our team, local communities and other trail users; respect wildlife, trails and the natural environment; and comply with applicable park, forest, conservation and other lawful requirements.
We may ask you to provide current information that is reasonably relevant to your participation or our ability to assist you in an emergency. You are responsible for providing such information accurately and for informing us of a material change where it may affect your participation or safety. Providing health information does not mean that Just Summit has medically assessed or certified you as fit to participate.
Your participation is subject to the Just Summit Trails Safety Policy and reasonable safety decisions made during an experience. Where reasonably necessary, a guide, safety person, ranger or other authorised person may change the pace or group arrangement, alter the route, establish or change a turnaround time, require a participant to turn back, or suspend or terminate an activity. You agree to comply with lawful and reasonable safety instructions. A decision to turn back or discontinue an experience should not be treated as a failure to complete it.
The summit can wait. Safety cannot.
Just Summit may reasonably change the route, destination, itinerary, pace groups, turnaround point or other aspects of an experience where necessary because of weather or environmental conditions, trail conditions, safety concerns, park or forest requirements, instructions from relevant authorities, transport or access difficulties, emergencies, or other circumstances affecting the safe or reasonable conduct of the experience. Any entitlement to a refund, credit or transfer will be determined in accordance with the Cancellation, Refund and Transfer Policy.
You may choose to stop participating in an experience. If you wish to withdraw after an experience has started, inform the guide and follow reasonable instructions concerning your return or departure. You should not leave the group or designated route without informing the team. Just Summit may restrict or terminate your participation where continuing would create a material safety risk, you repeatedly fail to follow reasonable safety instructions, your conduct materially disrupts the experience, or you engage in violence, harassment or serious misconduct.
If you become ill, injured or otherwise require assistance during an experience, inform a member of the Just Summit team as soon as reasonably possible. Just Summit may take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances, including providing first aid, contacting emergency services, arranging evacuation or contacting your emergency contact. Outdoor experiences may take place in remote areas where mobile communication and professional medical assistance are limited. You acknowledge that emergency assistance may therefore take longer than would ordinarily be expected.
Some parts of a Just Summit experience may be provided by independent third parties, including transport providers, park authorities, rangers, accommodation providers, medical or emergency services, caterers, and photographers. Where Just Summit selects or arranges a third-party service, we will take reasonable steps appropriate to the nature of the service. Independent providers remain responsible for obligations imposed upon them by applicable law.
A person under the age of 18 may participate only where the particular experience is appropriate and applicable participation requirements have been satisfied. Registration of a child must ordinarily be undertaken by or with the involvement of a parent or lawful guardian. A parent or guardian remains responsible for reasonable supervision of the child unless Just Summit has expressly agreed to another arrangement. The best interests of the child will be a primary consideration in decisions affecting a child's participation, safety or wellbeing.
You agree to treat trails, wildlife, vegetation, water sources, natural features, local communities and cultural or heritage sites with respect. You must not deliberately litter, damage vegetation, feed or harass wildlife, enter restricted areas, light unauthorised fires, or remove protected natural or cultural objects.
Photography and storytelling form part of many Just Summit experiences. Photography, videography, publication preferences and the collection and use of personal data are governed by the Just Summit Trails Privacy Notice. Your participation in an experience does not, by itself, mean that you have consented to every use of your identifiable image.
You remain responsible for your personal belongings during an experience. To the extent permitted by law, Just Summit will not be responsible for ordinary loss, theft or damage to personal property unless the loss or damage results from an act or omission for which Just Summit is legally responsible.
Hiking and other outdoor activities involve risks that cannot be completely eliminated even where reasonable care and appropriate safety measures are taken. These risks may include steep, uneven or slippery terrain, slips, trips and falls, physical exertion, fatigue and dehydration, high altitude, changing weather, wildlife, equipment failure, remote locations and delayed emergency assistance, and the actions of other participants or third parties. In serious cases, outdoor accidents or medical emergencies may result in permanent injury or death. By choosing to participate, you confirm that you understand that these kinds of risks may arise.
You voluntarily choose to participate in the relevant Just Summit experience. In doing so, you accept the ordinary and inherent risks of the activity that remain despite the exercise of reasonable care. Inherent risks are risks arising from the nature of the outdoor activity or environment that cannot reasonably be eliminated without fundamentally changing the nature of the experience. Your acceptance of inherent risk does not remove any duty or responsibility that Just Summit or another person has under applicable law.
This section affects your legal rights. Please read it carefully.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, you agree not to make a claim against Just Summit solely for injury, loss, damage or expense resulting from an ordinary and inherent risk of the outdoor activity that was reasonably associated with the nature of the activity, remained despite the exercise of reasonable care, and you acknowledged and voluntarily accepted under these Terms. You also acknowledge that Just Summit will not ordinarily be responsible for loss or injury resulting from your deliberate or reckless conduct, your material failure to follow a lawful safety instruction, materially inaccurate information provided by you, or the independent conduct of another person for which Just Summit is not legally responsible. The waiver and release apply only to the extent permitted by Kenyan law and do not exclude liability that cannot lawfully be excluded.
Nothing in these Terms is intended to remove Just Summit's responsibility to take reasonable care where the law requires us to do so. Nothing in these Terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded, means that an accident is automatically the participant's responsibility merely because it occurred during an outdoor activity, or prevents a participant from establishing that injury or loss resulted from negligence or another legally actionable act or omission.
Your own conduct may be relevant when responsibility for an accident, injury or loss is determined. Where your act or omission contributes to the injury, loss or damage suffered, responsibility may be determined in accordance with applicable law, including legal principles relating to contributory negligence.
You are encouraged to consider whether personal medical, accident, travel or other insurance is appropriate for the experience in which you intend to participate. Where specific insurance is included as part of an experience, we will communicate the nature of that arrangement separately.
These Terms should be read together with the Safety Policy, Equality and Non-Discrimination Policy, Environmental & Trail Conservation Policy, Cancellation, Refund & Transfer Policy, Privacy Notice, and information provided for the particular experience. Each document serves a different purpose. These Terms establish the conditions on which you participate. The Safety Policy explains our approach to managing safety and risk. The Cancellation, Refund & Transfer Policy governs cancellations, postponements, refunds, credits and transfers. The Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal information.
We may update these Terms from time to time to reflect changes in our experiences, operations, policies, applicable law or lessons from our activities. The current version will be made available through our website. The version applicable to an experience will ordinarily be the version accepted when you register for that experience.
These Terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. If a concern or dispute arises, we encourage you to raise it with us so that we have a reasonable opportunity to understand and address it. Any dispute concerning these Terms will be determined in accordance with applicable Kenyan law.

A safety concern requiring immediate attention during an experience should be raised directly with the nearest Just Summit guide or designated safety person.
You will be required to accept these Terms through the applicable registration or Trail Check-In process before participating in a Just Summit experience. When accepting these Terms, you confirm that you have had an opportunity to read them; you understand that participation in hiking and other outdoor activities involves inherent risks; you have read the sections titled "Understanding the risks of outdoor activities", "Voluntary assumption of inherent risks", and "Waiver and release of claims"; you understand and voluntarily accept the inherent risks described; you agree to comply with the participant responsibilities and reasonable safety instructions described; and you agree to be bound by these Terms.

This policy explains what happens when a Just Summit experience is cancelled, postponed or transferred — whether by you or by us.
A deposit is required to secure your place on a Just Summit experience. The deposit amount and payment deadline will be communicated for each experience. Payment of the deposit confirms your registration and is subject to these Terms.
Cancellations received more than 7 days before the experience date are eligible for a full refund or transfer. Cancellations received between 3 and 7 days before the experience date are eligible for a transfer or credit. Cancellations received less than 3 days before the experience date are not eligible for a refund, credit or transfer.
Cancellations received more than 14 days before the experience date are eligible for a full refund or transfer. Cancellations received between 7 and 14 days before the experience date are eligible for a transfer or partial credit. Cancellations received less than 7 days before the experience date are not eligible for a refund, credit or transfer.
Cancellation terms for international expeditions will be communicated separately for each experience, having regard to the nature of the expedition and associated costs. These terms will be provided before or at the time of registration.
Where permitted for the particular experience, you may transfer your place to another person. A transfer request must be made before the applicable deadline and the replacement participant must satisfy applicable participation requirements. Just Summit reserves the right to decline a transfer where the replacement participant does not meet the requirements for the experience.
Where permitted, you may transfer your registration to another Just Summit experience of equivalent or lesser value. Any difference in experience fee will be handled at the time of transfer. Transfers are subject to availability and must be requested before the applicable deadline.
Where a participant is declined or removed from an experience because they do not meet applicable participation or safety requirements, the cancellation terms applicable to that experience will apply. Just Summit will not ordinarily be responsible for costs arising from a participant's failure to meet communicated requirements.
If you choose to withdraw from an experience after it has started, no refund will ordinarily be payable for the portion of the experience not completed. Where withdrawal results from a safety-related decision made by Just Summit, the position will be considered in accordance with section 9.
Where Just Summit cancels an experience for reasons within our control, registered participants will be offered a full refund or a transfer to an alternative experience. Where cancellation results from circumstances outside our reasonable control, including severe weather, natural events, government restrictions, park or forest closures or safety emergencies, participants will be offered a transfer or credit where reasonably practicable.
Where Just Summit postpones an experience, registered participants will be offered the option to transfer their registration to the rescheduled date or to receive a credit for a future experience. Where a participant cannot attend the rescheduled date, a refund may be offered at Just Summit's discretion having regard to the circumstances of the postponement.
Approved refunds will be processed within 14 days of the approved cancellation. Refunds will be made using the original payment method where reasonably practicable. Processing times may vary depending on the payment method and provider.

This policy explains how Just Summit Trails approaches safety in the planning and delivery of our experiences, and the shared responsibilities that apply to our team and participants.
This Safety Policy applies to all Just Summit experiences and sets out our approach to planning for and managing safety during those experiences. It should be read together with the Just Summit Trails Terms of Participation and the information provided for each particular experience.
Just Summit is committed to taking reasonable steps to identify and manage foreseeable safety risks in the planning and delivery of our experiences. We recognise that outdoor activities involve inherent risks that cannot be completely eliminated, and our approach is to manage those risks reasonably rather than to eliminate all risk.
Safety during a Just Summit experience is a shared responsibility. Just Summit will take reasonable steps to plan and manage safety. Participants are responsible for providing accurate information, following reasonable instructions, preparing appropriately, and informing the team if they become unwell, injured or require assistance.
Before each experience, Just Summit will take reasonable steps to assess foreseeable risks having regard to the nature of the activity, the route, terrain, expected weather conditions, the profile of registered participants and other relevant factors. Where significant risks are identified, we will consider appropriate measures to manage them.
Just Summit will seek to provide participants with information reasonably necessary to prepare for the experience, including information about difficulty, distance, elevation, duration, terrain, meeting arrangements, required clothing and equipment, and any specific preparation requirements. Participants are expected to review this information carefully and contact us if they have concerns about their ability to participate.
Just Summit may request health and emergency information from participants where this is reasonably relevant to their participation or our ability to assist them in an emergency. This information will be handled in accordance with the Just Summit Trails Privacy Notice. Participants are responsible for providing this information accurately and for informing us of material changes before the experience.
Just Summit will communicate clothing and equipment requirements for each experience. Participants are responsible for bringing appropriate clothing, footwear, water, food, medication and equipment. Where a participant arrives without adequate clothing or equipment and this creates a material safety concern, Just Summit may decline or restrict their participation.
Just Summit will conduct a check-in process before each experience. This may include confirming participant registration, collecting health and emergency information, communicating safety information relevant to the experience, and providing a pre-departure briefing. Participants are expected to arrive on time and to engage with the check-in and briefing process.
Just Summit guides, designated safety personnel and other authorised persons have authority to make safety decisions before and during an experience. These decisions may include changing the pace or group arrangement, altering the route, establishing or changing a turnaround time, requiring a participant to turn back, or suspending or terminating an activity. Participants agree to comply with lawful and reasonable safety instructions.
Participants are expected to remain within the designated group or route unless otherwise instructed. Just Summit will take reasonable steps to manage group size, pace and cohesion having regard to the nature of the experience and the profile of participants. Participants should not leave the group or designated route without informing the team.
Just Summit will monitor weather and trail conditions before and, where practicable, during an experience. Where conditions create a material safety risk, Just Summit may alter, delay, shorten, suspend or cancel an experience. Participants will be informed of material changes as soon as reasonably practicable.
Where transport is arranged or facilitated by Just Summit, participants are expected to comply with reasonable transport safety requirements, including the use of seatbelts where available, following driver instructions, and not engaging in conduct that distracts the driver or compromises the safety of other passengers.
Participants must not arrive at or participate in a Just Summit experience in a state that impairs their ability to participate safely. Just Summit may decline or remove a participant whose condition or conduct creates a material safety risk to themselves or others. No refund will ordinarily be payable in such circumstances.
Just Summit will apply additional care when managing the participation of children and participants who may require additional support during an experience. A parent or guardian accompanying a child remains responsible for reasonable supervision of that child. Where a participant requires specific support arrangements, these should be communicated to Just Summit before the experience.
If a participant becomes ill, injured or otherwise requires assistance during an experience, the participant should inform a member of the Just Summit team as soon as reasonably possible. Just Summit will take reasonable steps appropriate to the circumstances, which may include providing first aid, contacting rangers or emergency services, arranging or facilitating evacuation, and contacting the participant's emergency contact.
Just Summit will maintain a record of significant incidents, near-misses and safety concerns arising during our experiences. Information recorded will be used to inform our safety planning and the review of this policy. Personal data included in incident records will be handled in accordance with the Just Summit Trails Privacy Notice.
Where parts of an experience are provided by third parties, Just Summit will take reasonable steps appropriate to the nature of the service when selecting those providers. Independent providers remain responsible for complying with applicable safety requirements imposed upon them by law. Participants must comply with reasonable safety requirements communicated by third-party providers.
Health and emergency information collected for safety purposes will be handled in accordance with the Just Summit Trails Privacy Notice. Access to this information will be restricted to persons who require it for safety or emergency purposes.
This Safety Policy should be read together with the Just Summit Trails Terms of Participation, Cancellation, Refund and Transfer Policy, Privacy Notice, Environmental & Trail Conservation Policy, and the information provided for each particular experience.
Just Summit will review this Safety Policy periodically and following any significant incident. We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes in our experiences, operations or applicable requirements. The current version will be made available through our website.

What we expect from each other on and off the trail.
Just Summit Trails KE is built on trust, respect, and a shared love of movement. The following code applies to all members, guides, and participants in any Just Summit Trails KE activity.
Treat every member of the community with dignity regardless of fitness level, age, background, or experience. No member shall be ridiculed, excluded, or made to feel unwelcome.
Leave no trace. Pack out what you pack in. Do not damage vegetation, disturb wildlife, or leave litter on trail. We are guests in these environments.
No member shall pressure another to exceed their limits. If you or someone in the group is unwell or unsafe, the hike stops. No summit is worth a life.
Be truthful about your fitness level and health when registering. This information exists to keep you safe, not to exclude you.
We hike together. The strongest hiker finishes when the last person finishes. No one gets left behind.
Content shared from Just Summit Trails KE activities must not demean, embarrass, or misrepresent any member of the community. When in doubt, ask before you post.
Day-to-day guidelines for being part of the Just Summit Trails KE community.
Arrive on time. We depart at the stated time. Late arrivals may not be able to join the group for safety and logistics reasons.
Come prepared. Bring enough water, appropriate footwear, and dress for the conditions. Check the WhatsApp group for any pre-hike guidance.
No single-use plastic bottles. Use a refillable water bottle. This is non-negotiable on trail.
Stay with the group. Do not forge ahead or fall behind without informing a trail leader. Solo detours are not permitted on group hikes.
Inform us of changes. If you registered and can no longer attend, let us know as early as possible so we can plan accordingly.
Respect the trail rating. If a trail is marked Difficult, assess honestly whether it suits your current fitness. Our team is available to advise — reach out before booking.
Contribute to the community. Share your story, rate the trail, encourage a fellow hiker. This community grows through participation.
